The Morning After

Posted by admin

A cheap mattress without blankets…A woman getting dressed…Below, the increasing clatter of Rome’s citizens just waking up.

What happened here?

Give us 100 words in the comments, or blog it and share your story with us.  We’d love to hear it :)

‘What’s the point to be in Rome without a camcorder?’ Emma wondered angrily on finishing to get dressed.
The morning before she was still in Seattle, from which she had fled imagining it could help her stop thinking of Steve. She had forgotten the camera she always carried in her journeys. What a foolish idea. The last thing she needed to come to terms with the end of her five years of marriage was to be alone in an anonymous hotel of a foreign town. Now she hated herself for her impulsiveness, and hated the clattering of the awakening town. She hated Rome. She hated that mattress on which she had slept without the sheets because of the horrible august heat. The mattress on which she had slept alone.
Someone softly knocked to the door, and she headed to open assuming it was a chambermaid.
‘Steve!’ she cried as she opened.
‘I thought it had to be a shitty holiday for you without this’, he said handing her the camcorder.
Five full seconds of embarrassed silence between the two.
‘Rome is such a fantastic city, Steve’.
    ‘Guess so’.

Hi, this is more of a comment about the Facebook page ‘Prompted to Write: Creative Writing Prompts ‘… I’ve just visited there for the umpteenth time and decided to try to pump up the membership there and really get a group of us writers together! You should get over there, if you’re serious about prompting/writing/creating,
it could be a great thing, especially if you’re struggling and blocked!
    See you soon, Denise
