Prompted to Write

Writing Prompts for Stories, Songs, & Creative Living

So here’s the idea – Almost everyone wants to be a writer, but almost no one wants to start writing. I’m not sure if that’s tragic, poetic, or just lucky, considering that a lot of people have a hard time signing their own names correctly. All the same, this blog exists to create brief prompts that elicit similarly brief passages in response.

If you’re like me and you get overwhelmed with inspiration in all directions, or if you’re just having a hard time getting motivated to write about anything, stop by to see the new writing prompts.

Although you’ll notice that I frequently mention the idea of sending in 100 word submissions, you can post stories of almost any length, so long as they’re related to the post in question. I just like 100 words because it’s incredibly short and not at all intimidating. Novels are big and scary creatures of tens of thousands of words, and even short writing projects can consist of several thousand. 100 words is nothing, really. A blip. A speck.  You can do that, right? Good.

The best part of all of it is that once you get started, the words just flow. Trust me when I say this, as I’ve been doing these for years. Any time I see a cool picture in a paper or magazine, I clip it away with a few notes. A year or two later, I’ll come back to it and let it guide my writing. Today, Flickr makes the whole process much easier. Thanks to thousands of talented and inspired photographers, I’ll be dropping in photos with each post.

So what are you waiting for? Browse around, get inspired, and get writing!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for so generously putting out your prompts for all to see and have a crack at! You’re right – it is amazing that so many people can actually write their own name … correctly. I’m following you on titter now too (@Jett5) – cloaked by 140 characters only – I’ll see what I can do.

Have a great day and btw the photos are perfect too.

    Kind Regards
    Christina Rose :)
