A Kid Again…But Not Quite

Posted by admin On February - 27 - 2010

You wake up and find yourself back in your childhood bedroom.  You are understandably startled, and when you look in the mirror, you see your adult self.  However, when you leave your bedroom, you realize that everyone regards you as a child, and it seems as though you have somehow traveled back in time to the year you were 8.

What do you do with this newfound chance at childhood?  Do you spend the day blowing bubbles and jumping in puddles?  Do you visit dead relatives?  Do you do something differently?  Give us 100 words or more in the comments – or post at your own blog and let us know the link!

Pizza Delivery

Posted by admin On February - 12 - 2010

You’re delivering pizzas one night and you’re taken to an address far outside of town.  So far, in fact, that you’re not sure why your store took it.  You call back to your manager and he acts a little odd when you ask about the address.  “Just deliver the pizza,” he says in a firm voice that lets you know no further explanation will be given.

When you get there, you step out of the car and approach the front gate, an eerie wrought-iron closure that leads to the courtyard.  What happens next?

January Contest Winner & February Contest

Posted by admin On February - 11 - 2010

The votes have been entered and we have a winner for January.  Gabrielle will be receiving the prize below for “The Gypsy Trailer”.

You Can Write a Novel Kit – The goal of this book is to help you take the bits and pieces that are floating around in your mind and put them together to create a full-length novel.

The winner of our drawing from the email list was a user whose email address is lill**at30@***.com (stars entered for privacy).  He or she will be receiving the prize below.

Portable MFA in Creative Writing – According to the description, it gives you “the core knowledge of a prestigious $50,000 MFA program without paying tuition.”

I loved all the entries and I’m glad to see everyone joining the newsletter.  The first issue will be going out very soon, and you can expect one every 2-4 weeks in the future.  If you’re not signed up yet, I highly recommend you do so now – there’s a signup field on the right side of the screen (or click here if you’re reading this in a feed reader).  We have a drawing every month, so just by being a member, you’ll be entered for an opportunity to win a prize.

So…on to the February contest.  For the month of February, it’s the same deal, except this time the prizes will be $15 Amazon gift certificates.   In case you missed the arrangement for last month, that means:

Contest #1 – All writing prompt responses for the month of February will be automatically entered in this contest.  Just post your contribution in the comments, or let us know about it and post a link in the comments.

Contest #2 – All members of the email list are automatically entered in the second contest.

Two great ways to win – Good luck!

A Day in the Country

Posted by admin On February - 6 - 2010

You’ve decided to spend a weekend exploring the countryside by car.  You’ve packed a picnic (though you might be open to a local restaurant if a good opportunity presents itself), you’ve picked out some great tunes for the ride, and you’ve started on your journey.  The weather is beautiful.

Then your car breaks down.  Your cell phone isn’t getting a signal, so you start walking.  After a while, you start to give up on ever getting a signal so you decide to approach a house that you see in the distance.  What happens next?

Give us 100 words or more in the comments – or post on your own blog and link back so we’ll see the trackback and we can all check it out :)
